AOD whatever that means!

Hey, this is the second time I'm writing today's blog. The computer simply dropped off line and I lost everything. Personally i know i won't be able to recreate the Pulitzer prize winning stuff that I wrote; so here goes.
If you know anything about the government, then you know, it's in love with acronyms in all shapes and sizes. I  think some of them don't mean a darn thing! They're just letters to fool you into thinking you're missing something important.
Anyway, here's one that really means something, AOD. It means, Alleged Onset Date. Now that date normally corresponds to the day you stopped working, the day you had surgery that caused you not to return to work and is the day the money ticker starts. The money ticker is the time between the AOD and a FFD. Oh NO, another one. Ok, I had to do it. FFD means Fully Favorable Decision. The time between the two minus 5 months (SSA does not pay you for those months) is the time of accumulative back pay.
In a perfect world that seems rather staight forward. But oh no, this is the government and there are a whole bunch of exceptions. For example; you are barely holding on due to mental or physical problems and you get laid off or fired. So, you file for SSA disability and then apply for unemployment. SSA says that's fine. But hold on, most Judges do not. Here is the issue. In most states to receive unemployment you have to tell the state you are mentally and physically able to go to work and that you're looking for a job. When you filed for SSA disability you said you couldn't work. See the problem. You're telling one governmental authority you can work and another you can't. It becomes a credibility issue for the Judges. Here's where your alleged onset date would likely move to the date you stopped receiving unemployment. By doing so you lose accumulative back pay.
I know what you're thinking, I need the money to survive. Remember my previous blog on how your need for resources to buy food, pay your rent , etc.. has nothing to do with the determination process. Cold and hard, I know. But this plays out everyday. Of course there are other reasons an AOD would move to another day, but those are the subject of another blog.
That's just one acronym and there are many many more.
